Default New Key

I had a new key cut so the GF can use the car, but it took me ages to get it to work with the ignition barrel is this right? It worked fine on the petrol cap and boot, but just didnt want to work in the ignition. I kept using it in the boot and petrol cap to wear it in a little. Just seems really stiff i had to shake the steering wheel and twist and move the key about to get it to turn it. Now my original key isnt as easy to use as it used to i have to twiddle it a little now. I suppose now its a better safety feature lol. Just wanted to know if this is normal. Cheers for the help in advance.

its probably not normal to let your girlfriend use your car! but the key could just be a dodgy cut?!?!
