Eibach springs keep OEM dampers?
I was reading on here somewhere ages ago about springs and someone said they kept standard shocks with eibach 50mm and had no problem, can anyone confirm? I can't really be arsed buying new dampers and fitting them atm
When I go to buy the springs it says that it lowers the rear by 45mm? confused... it was all the correct stuff for my vtr though like year and which model, any help appreciated guys

running standard shocks in lowered springs is fine. The drawbacks are reduced shock life (so you'll need to change them sooner anyway) and some report a "crashy" ride.
Personally I'd rather do both at the same time as you've got to effectively take the springs off to replace the shocks anyway.
At all costs, avoid the vmax or other ebay shite (raceland) coilovers.

no problem - like I say, it makes sense to do at the same time, but if you can't afford to... well, twice the work but less $$

Springs only lower the front. To do the rear you need to adjust the torsion bar!

Yeah I know mate that's why it's confusing... Why does it say its for a VTR if it offers to lower the rear?

Where does it say this? you've not posted a link.
It's more than likely generic marketing crap as they're used to selling a set of 4 springs and just haven't changed their wording.

If you lower your car 50mm on standard shocks the dampers will most likely be sitting on the bumpstops. Remove these bumpstops and your shocks start bottoming out. The internals or the seals will deteriorate as well as basically giving a bit of a cack ride quality.
The car will look nicer though

When we bought the gf's vtr, it came with 50mm Eibachs and std shocks.
God it was awful, like driving a bouncy castle.
Got even worse as the shocks got older/worn.
Now running an Apex kit (shocks & springs) much better, can actually go over speed bump faster than 5mph now.
As your vtr is over 10 years old. The shocks will be coming to the end of their life, if not already past it.
So would be wise to replace.
As Ross said

I would recommend a either 35mm or 50mm Apex kit.

As above save £200 and get a full apex kit, only takes a few min longer to replace the shocks when the springs are out, just a matter of undoing the damper collar with a big pair of stilsons, slide the old shock out, slide new one in, do collar back up simpless

i used to have the 30/35mm eibach springs on standard shocks and they felt fine, pretty much like standard, just less body due to not being as high.
Ive known a few people fit eibach 50mm springs with standard springs. Eibach are very good quality so i wouldnt mind running them with standard shocks if i was feeling tight

can you not just chop the bumpstop in half to save that problem?

you can but the bumpstops are that size for a reason. 50mm is a significant amount of suspension travel. Remove that from the bumpstop and I'd bet money you can bottom out the shocks.
