Default driftshaft problems

Got a right pain in the ass, i can hardly turn the wheel right without it locking up early then apply a gear and revs and it just lifts the whole car up?
Sounds like a driveshaft popping?

Thing is im at work no breakdown cover and i have to get it home.
Only bloody insure it last night at a cost of 1220

Im not a happy guy, plus the tracking is waaaaaaaaay out!
How much money (need a figure) are talking for a garage to fix this as i have no time to do so.
And Tbh its going to be hard to find the cash after paying all my savings out for insurance. Dam my life isnt simple.

cheers guys
Mike

If your shaft decides to lock at any sort of speed you will be looking at some big damage due to forces involved I would imagine. I think new shaft is between £70-£90 and fitting would be 1 hour aprox in garage so we looking at £150 max I would say. If you don't live to far away might be worth getting a lift home then limping your car back tonight when roads are quieter perhaps. I've never heard of a shaft being that bad though mate, bad luck that.

Iv been told shafts are about 30 used, but like you said if its a garage more like 80 as its new. Yeh i can imagine a few engine mounts failing if it locked.

Cheers for the response, going to have to drive it home no choice its only A roads. and 5 turns in total just going to have to risk it
My luck is crap!

Another question:
the vtr is slammed, lowest it can actually go so that wont help but how long until the next one goes? im not a stereotypical boy racer i respect my life & others.

Yeh just like that!!!
i waited till the traffic died set off home and it wasnt to bad.
Jsut didnt take any sharp turns avoid stressing it.
The brakes are normal sharp as and does not pull to any side under braking.
Had a quote for tracking a new shaft of 60 so gotta find some money now

if it is that mate then it could be you diff in your gearbox jack it up put it in neutral spin one wheel if both spin then its more than likely your diff also when spinning the wheels listen for clunking from your box

iv just replaced my driveshaft cos it was very close to being like this. pulled really hard to the right when i put my foot down and couldnt put more than 3/4 a turn of left lock on it or it would very nearly lock up.

new shaft and all was good again

sounds like the bearing in your shaft had come loose and dislogded just grinding against eachother then

Had it jacked up last night, ran a few routine checks, pretty sure its the outer cv joint, give away was the gaiter not fixed & had moved/dried out.
Cheers guys! Great forum! Cant wait to get it sorted!

the bearing was fine and tight in the thing on back of engine (cant remember proper name lol)

it was the cv joint itself because there was so much friction as there was no grease in it whatsoever. i did try and grease it up and this reduced the amount of pull to the right but because the gaitor was split in about 4 places it all came out again and gradually the car was becoming undrivable lol.

thats a pretty epic paragraph sorry for peopel who read it lol.
