Thats looking straight at it through the fog - no turning.
Its got like a squishy end, though it was fuel related tbf, its raining so i can't go and trace it atm.

Well that side has had a tap - although only enough to break the light bracket, the brackets on this suspected pump don't look bent.
i will investigate further when it stops raining.
its a 2001 vts if it makes any odds.

It's the pump part with the two hoses that come off it, not the valve bit which you mean, that is not actually on the exhaust it runs across the front of the engine just above the manifold and goes into the side of the head. It pumps fresh air into the exhaust ports for a few seconds on start up, something to do with warming the cat and helping emissions in europe i believe. So not actually an egr valve, i just said that as people commonly call it that...its the fresh air pump for sure.

I dont have a cat (or dog for that matter) so if it is, what you say it is, I wonder the impacts of removing it - tis a track car after all.

Plenty of, infact most people remove it anyway, even on road cars. It weighs a surprising amount too by the time you've removed all the components. Cold start idle may be a little lumpier, (a few people have mentioned this when removing) or it may be no different.
