Default Why does my car only do 80mph top end?

Not long swapped my car for another saxo 1.1i my previous 1.1s normally do the clock (with abit of wind and down hill lol) but yeah this one is shit off a shovel to 70 then crawls to 80 and just about gets to 82 down hill, iknow there not fast cars, but its just the wonder of why it tops out at 80, all ive done so fat is new coil pack and plugs, its not under weight its got barly anything in the car, so yeah all ideas worth it ? Thanks

I wouldnt say a long box like a vtr box would be good for acceleration on a 1.1

No 2 cars are the same, for example some of it boils down to servicing at the correct intervals etc.

I was thinking box at first, but the pull is too great for a vtr box, and it has full service history lol, surprising, and confusing at the same time! Maybe it has been restricted ? Or some kind again i know there not fast any way but ive never known one to get to 80 really quick then bam thats all you get!

Acceleration will be quickish even with a VTR box, but at speed, the gears are too long for the engine to get the torque to the wheels.

Also, are your valve clearances correct?

I see what your saying, and im not sure how do i check this? And is there a way to determin if its a vtr box, or a 1.1 box without stripping the box its self lol

What makes you say that? Vtr/diesel has the longest ratios of all the boxes fitted to these cars

Getting the code off the gearbox will take 5 minutes and will be very telling

Because of aero dynamics. Force required to punch dat saxo through the air is exponential. (I think it's a cube function actually).

So, average acceleration will be similar - up to a certain speed. but because the gears are taller, the overall top speed will be less because the torque at the output of the gearbox is less at a given rpm.

You need torque to sustain a high speed, as a horsepower is 33,000 torques per minute

Aww I'm not good at explaining things. I know what I mean though.

As I said earlier, you've a lot less air resistance at 30mph, so that makes sense to me.

find the gearbox code!

I'm sure there's a guide on here abut the codes. it wouldn't be fair for me to link 106owners guide
