Whining noise coming from engine? timing belt maybe?
Have my vts parked up at my cousins garage for now, took it for a good spin yesterday and gave it some stress to make sure everything was in working order! when i got back there was a whining noise coming from the engine, my cousin said it might be the timing belt but i dont know enough about engines yet to clarify that, any ideas? my mates got a video of it might upload it later

mroe then likely a pulley, on either the alternator or tensioner for the timing belt etc,
does it do it on idle? if so pop the bonnet up and have a listen and locate where it is, if it was the timing belt itself it would be squeeking and you would notice bad idle / engine seizing ;-)
if its not a pulley it may be the alternator belt itself slipping

I had a similar prob on my VTS about a year ago, at first I thought it was to do with the cambelt tensioner, but it turned out to be the bottom pulley (the big one that turns the alternator belt). The rubber part of it had badly perrished and fallen apart causing lots of play and noise from the pulley. Maybe worth checking it mate?

had a look tonight, the alternator belt looks like half of its worn away! took it for a spin but didnt hear the noise today? strange! think it just need a new belt hopefully that do the trick!
what damage is done if the alternator belt snaps?

I've got this noise and just to eliminate some stuff -
I've changed the Alternator crank pulley (it had died)
Gear box
Clutch
Cam belt / Tensioners / Water Pump
Alternator
All valves replaced
Drive shafts.
(yes I bought the car fooked)
And the noise is still there, and yes it sounds like its coming from under the rocker, and yes it gets slightly louder on acceleration, not a clue what it is Run the car for about 4000miles since the above work without a problem
