You should put the 1.1 gearbox on no matter what.. free mod if you've got to get the clutch done.. and will make a load of difference

The 1.1 gearbox will be a good idea as Sneaky's one is buggered but im not so sure about the 'load of difference'?
Arent 1.1 gearbox's going to be weaker if anything as they only have to handle like 50bhp of engine?
I dont know much about mechanics but I dont think anything will be gained tbh Sneaky, the ratio's will be different and poss internals strength, hopefully its just a like for like swap, if there were gains to be made all the vtr/s owners would have 1.1 gearboxes?
Series 2 106 Ralyee gearboxes is a different story! I want one!
(im at work and really bored hense long post sorry Sneaky bud )

well lippy a lot of people do have 1.1 boxes on there r's. thats why it was taken off the old car, cus someone wanted it for there VTR. i was reading up on it today and apparently s boxes are better for westys than 1.1's, but the 1.1 box will do the trick!
if my westy box is alright, it can go back on, but chances are the badgers box will go on it, least the car will live on in parts and not just spirit!

gearbox swap is 50 quid m8, and clutch is only the price of cluch, plus oil, so nt that expensive and only a few hours work. ye the s is coming along m8, as with all saxs it has its fair share of probs 2 lol

oh well i did say i dont know much about mechanics!
I though someone told me the 1.1 boxes were weaker and not up to the job, well now I look silly
Still thats what I have Adz and Marc for, they do mechanics and advise on right bits, I do electronics, fibreglassing recently and painting stuff pretty colors lol
Sounds like il be seeing you in Starcross soon looking at the price above and the price you got quoted already, which will be good!

took the car down to the garage with the box this morning, so we shall see if my box is fooked and this one is better.
speaking of fibreglassing, i need to go trago's and get some and resin etc
want to start doing my smooth boot lock trip and popper!
or maybe i should refurb the s wheels first. not that i can afford tyres at mo, even at a bargain price lol

UPDATE:
Cars back from the garage. Clutch was fooked, so was gearbox and so was starter motor. clutch cable on the other hand wasnt haha wahey.
its sounding a lot better now. There are still some noises coming from the bay, but im hoping that was always there.
as for the diff with have the 1.1 box on, it is noticeable...im not pushing it as its only just had a clutch done, but it is noticeable.
Also now it has a new clutch, i dont have a super heavy pedal and the griffiths quickshift actually feels good!
Also...they cleaned the car for me!
Anyways, on with the update, as the car was in the garage for most of today i cracked on with the s alloys. i say cracked on, i didnt get much done as i had to go to the dentist, but one wheel is on the way. Going to spend my time on these as these are the wheels i want. so want a decent finish. Plus i cant afford paint right now lol
Also while i was outside sanding, this turned up...
Its a bit grubby but in good condition. (pictures dont do it justice!). Got some auto glym shampoo so going to do that on saturday and get it in the car when i put the centre console in.
Also got my 2 rocker switches for my interior lighting. Bought 2 as wasnt sure what i wanted, 1 blue dot switch and 1 whole illuminating swtich. but the later doesnt look blue, more green, so ill prob stick with the blue dot switch.
If i can scrounge some money i may go buy some cable and put the wiring in under the carpet and to the sides for the rest of the interior lighting so its all done. Dont really want to have to keep doing the wiring over and over!
Also got to wire the volt meter in. But hoping lippy might be free at least by phone so he can explain which wires to wire it to on the ignition barrel.
Thats your lot for now!

yeah it does, but the picture really doesnt do it justice, its not as faded as that, but im going to give it a good proper clean at the weekend.
iv got a slow flat in my back wheel so need to get these done soonish so i can get tyres on them and then on the car
or i might just get the tyre repaired for a tenner from the mechanic up the road.
Thanks mate, i always keep you in mind if im stuck with something

argh so the carpet isn't that bad then after all ,
you going to get spaces for the rear ? around 10 - 15mm, because a vts read beam is 10mm wider due to discs, unless you put a disc rear beem on it later on, ?
i still need to get some for mine,
By the Way they might rub on the Arch if you don't put spaces on to start off with, because, my archs have been bashed in so my brother could put 17" alloys on it, so doesn't scrape, but i would have a Trail fit before you sell your Vtr wheels dude,
just a friendly piece of advise,
Adz
P.s sorry for the essay haa xx
