the build quality of the camera is very important, id rather have a nice solid feel of my 30d than a cheap peice of plastic in my hand.. espec as cameras do take a battering over the years of use.

exactly mate, if you are shedding out a good few hundred quid i would want something that felt nice and strong (magnesium body) to justify the amount of money. thats why if you get a slightly older model higher spec camera the build quality will be better than than of a budget / entry level new camera.
dont get me wrong you can get good pictures with a 350d and d50, but i use my camera daily at uni and so i want something that will last
