Hi,
(before anyone moans, i've done a search and can't find what i'm after.)
I'm soon going to be upgrading to 16 or 17" alloys on my 2003 VTR.
I've seen everywhere that you have to cut your wheelarch liners away to stop them rubbing - now as far as I know, the arch liners stop all the mud etc from getting to the metal of the inner arch and corroding it etc - if you cut them away, what protects your wheel arches? Or can you do something to compensate?
Second, obviously my VTR is running 14" alloys with 195/55/14 tyres - if I get 17's on there, won't that make the total diameter of my wheel and tyre combination larger - will this then affect my speedo etc?
If someone could let me know, Thanks.

yes your speedo will be out, where i ahve removed my arch liners i have sealed them using waxoyl and for any bare areas of metal painted with hammerite then waxed over with the waxoyl

I did exectly what scott did, hammerite on the bare metal and then use some kind of underbody seal like waxoyl over the top to stop stones chipping off the paint and to keep water out.

Cheers guys. I'm pretty new to this modifying malarkey and i've yet to find a post anywhere that also tells you this stuff!
Opposed to waxoyling stuff, do you reckon you could fabricate some new archliners out of something?
Sorry for so many questions, but lastly, if I get 16's running 195 x 40 profile tyes, by my calculations, they'll have exactly the same overall diameter as my 14's running higher profile tyres. If this is the case, won't they just fit on?
Do any tyre manufacturers actually do 40 profile tyres in 195 x 16 size?

And lastly, does anyone know what these alloys are?
The smoked lights look wicked too - this is the sort of look I want to achieve with mine, but those alloys are amazing! They compliment the car beautifully!

yes you can get 195/40/16's readily available from most tyre manufacturers I think.

Would they just bolt on to a Saxo, or would you need spacers etc?
