Default cat in manifold....

hiya guys

i have a vtr where the manifold is bolted to the cat with 4bolts...with 2 lambdas...

if i were to take off the manifold and cat together - and get a manifold from a 8v car that has the cat in the exhaust (and not in the mani) with the downpipe included...in theory i would be decatting..i know id have to sleeve away the bottom sensor...but would there b any other significant problems id face? ive heard rumours id have to relocate oil filter or something?

help please!

yes your right, a mk1 vtr manifold will bolt straight on, and yes sleeve the second lambda only problem you might get is the oil filter problem other than that it works!

i think someone is making a hybrid mk2 manifold with a mk1 downpipe by welding it on as the mk1 downpipe connects differently to the manifold, but thats just a massive pissing about imo lol

cheers matey.... im just a bit anxious to undo my manifold bolts - really dont want them to snap and have to drill them out :/

can it be any 8v car, for example106/206 etc? or just a vtr? and what kinda power gains will i get? im probs gonna end up with a 421 but not quite yet tbh!

i would have thought any 8v saxo/106 manifold would work

also you cant snap the bolts, the manifold is held on to the head with studs which you just slip the manifold on to then do up the nuts, if a nut is very tight it will just turn the stud out the head (which probably will happen) then all you have to do is get a set of mole grips on the stud and a socket on the end of the nut and twist it off ten just screw the stud back in to the head you cant go wrong really

spot on thanks

so, another quick question before i shoot to the breakers! - is the length of the cat to the middle section the same length as the downpipe? as in, will i have to make any ajustments to the manifold with the downpipe? and also, what do i use to sleeve the second lambda away? and where so i tuck it?

Sorry for the hijack, but am I right in thinking the second lambada is only there to tell if the cat is working properly, so sleeving it would not cause the ecu to adjust the fuelling incorrectly?

sleeving the lambda sensor tricks the ecu in thinking that its plugged in

nah you should have to make any adjustments
