You must have been doing something wrong as even that shite behind the dash weighs at least 5kg (well thats what it says on it I thought it was more imo)

Im pretty sure removing all the interior like seats and sound deadening panels wiring etc can lose 100kg

Wish mine was roadworthy!

I'm just not convinced by the weight loss.

As you can see, I pulled pretty much everything that unbolted from the rear seats backwards. The c-pillars are still there, headlining / sunroof, I didn't pull the front seats, front carpet or front panels. Not had the grinder or spot drill out. I could lift up everything that I took out in one go - if I packed it carefully. It just isn't that heavy. It might be more than 10kg, fuck knows, but it can't be any more than a bag of ballast (25kg).

I avoid bullshit weight loss stats and bullshit BHP figures. It does what it does and that's it.

I'll try to weigh it once it is done - that'll tell a story.

I'm probably going to keep the front largely intact (seats aside). I don't want to go too extreme - it needs to be comfortable enough on a run from Kent to Silverstone, Snetterton, Rockingham, wherever.

In terms of your weight loss, and what you've lost, what you've removed is pretty much the lightest, and from the worst place really.

The car is obviously front heavy anyway, and although minimal, lower CoG is always a plus, so binning the headlining, sunroof and mech is a good place to start, and the heaviest piece of sound deadening in the car is behind the dash against the firewall, the single piece is around 8Kg, there's also the tar in the front footwells, and if you've got door bars for the cage you can strip the door giblets out totally as well. The dash itself is fairly heavy, you can trim a lot of plastic from the back, and the front door cards etc are heavy enough for what they are.

Ideally more weight from the front rather than the back, I ditched the PAS system for 11Kg alone, you can also relocate the battery and washer bottle to move weight backwards. IIRC the 205 washer bottle will sit nicely inside the rear quarter.

I'm not desperate to lose weight out of the car to be honest - it was just a case of making space to get the cage in (an old-school Safety Devices 4-pointer, but hey, it was cheap through a friend).

I wasn't expecting much, but everything I touched weighed feck all!

No doubt I'll attack something else before too long, moan that it weighed feck all, but suddenly accumulate a noticeable loss. I would like to lose the sunroof, but I'd like to do it neatly and not just plate over the top of it but there doesn't seem to be anything off the shelf to plug it nicely.

Fair enough

Cage is a great idea, regardless of how good it is, it's always better than none, it's next on my list definitely!

You can get a non-sunroof skin fitted which is super neat, but $$$$

The cage owes me £50, I think.

I have a few ideas for neatly dealing with the sunroof. I'll share in due course!

Wasn't me, I'm afraid and the previous owner didn't track it, or so he says! Lol.

This saw Goodwood in the summer and is next out at Brands Hatch on the 6th Dec.

Never done Lydden - probably should as it is only 30 mins down the road.

I would say you can lose any easy 50 kg on this car then. If its not a daily then get it all out or go home!

I have run proper lightweights before and as I say, I need just enough civility to be tolerable on a longer run and winter use. If it is grim on a run, I won't use it as much.

Anyway, losing weight isn't high on the agenda. For me or the car!

Me? Or Joe?

Done about 20 - 25 days at all major UK circuits and a couple in Europe. I know that driving like a dick doesn't get you far! I'm no driving God, but I do OK.
