All the comments are well and true but the vts uses a different shorter ratio gear box instead of the vtr's long ratio (and ridiculously slow 5th gear)
VTS on bodies will rape VTR on bodies FACT
Fair play on you though at times i wish i just tuned my 8v rather than whacking the 16v in but then i think about what it will be like with tb's and change my mind..

Not when you have a 1.4 xsi box which is shorter than the VTS box...
And not neccessarily look up a few posts at Richy_Rich's post stating that sje's 8v can beat his so not so much a fact..
But I'll say it again I'm not pushing for figures i'm pushing for a fun car to drive...Which is surely the reason why anyone modifies a car?!?!

Right....
Far too many factors into this!
For one, like just said look up! Sje's cam'd bodie'd 8v can still pull away from my cam'd bodie'd 16v. simple as. Now thats to do with mine not getting full cam potential and can shake off 708/ph3's 16v's and thats been proven. before bodies, i stood no chance as well!
you statement may be true if they were done in a controlled environment, i.e. same type of cams & bodies & box......
and I'm sure sje can back me up, along with a few over on the 106oc.

I do & don't.
I do love the gti, and before bodies it was quicker than a standard 8v, so tbh i wouldn't have save any money! And about to beat sje's white skinny cock smoking arse!

Its a fair point... vtr has a nice bit of torque low down, but a vts has more.
If you drop a vts lump you have just gained what, 20-30 bhp for easily under a grand. Then you got the added potential to that.
Sjes car has undergone serious work and is literally at its peak power, where you could almost say there is no more to gain.
Where as a 16v, you can peak an N/A vts at 200bhp and still have a safe engine for a good 3-4000 miles, and if you go above 220bhp which is really expensive then your looking at a frequent rebuild.
all i am saying is the scope of the engine etc.
The fact that you have a tbd 8v in sjes case that can pull away easy from standard 16vs and Rich`s itb 16v (probably not set up 100%) is pretty sweet, but from a personal factor, i would want to spend 4-5k cash on pulling away from something a bit more special than a saxo.
All the above is based on opinion to be honest, and muffins car will sound and be awesome

I've played with cammed Gti's and Cammed and bodied Gti's and the cammed and Bodied Gti i sat dead next to smiling at the guy (LeeDiabloGti) all the way up to twice legal speeds and he didn't pull an inch!! (and i was only running 145bhpish then due to faulty TPS overfuelling.)

I'm only at the limit of my camshaft choice thats all.
yes a 16v will make 200bhp+. How many of them acheive it?? not many Most stumble at 195 if there lucky.
Speaking to Sandy 180bhp from an 8v is acheiveable! maybe more. So plenty more to be gained. Also the 8v lump is surprisingly lighter than the 16v lump.
Much bigger/more powerful machinery have become very embarrased when they realised i was still next to them smiling when they thought i had long dissapeared. Only silly speeds do they leave me.
