I did mine a month or so ago when we had freezing weather. I only cleaned mine up for winter, so they weren't done brilliantly, but they were done in my garage which at the time was freezing, mine came out fine. Usually the paint will dry dull if its damp and cold.
They should be alright.

If you paint them black they will look smaller dude. I think the better choice will be to paint them white, or green, but better in white. Still choice is yours

personally i would leave them, or if they are knackered maybe re-spray a darker shade of silver. im boring :'(
