my mate, who also has a saxo vtr mk1, his engine is different..... similar to this one:

can anyone tell me why they're different, why mine is grey/silver and his is black?

i've read on this site about silver top engine, but what is the difference??

black top engine present in early VTR's up to early 98. Used a coil and ignition leads, had no knock sensor and im sure it had slightly different tappets or valves or something

The silver top came with a coil pack and knock sensor and the different tappets or what ever it is in the head.

There are probably other differences that i have forgotten
