Default Law On Deposit?

Right some of you may know,i went to view a blue vtr yesterday from a car dealer.
Anyway i laid a deposit down as i liked it and didnt want it selling,so i said ill come back tommorow and get my dad to test drive it,as i cant drive yet(can in a few months). So i get back and start having doubts about the car, price, scratch and so on.My dad said i was stupid to lay a deposit down just because didnt want it selling(i agree).
So we go back today to give the bad news that i didnt want it and have found a much better deal on a black vtr and was in much better condition. And on the form it he wrote if the father does not approve refund the 200 pound deposit,so my dad said he didnt approve because we have found a better deal elsewhere and about the scratch(he said dont worry we can repair that)and he goes yer but there is nothing wrong about the car so you cant have your money back,i said yes there is its over priced and was in bad condition, and he said i cant have the deposit back basically!
Anyway he went inside then came back out a few minutes later with my deposit(gave me it),and he said i shouldnt really be giving you this and started getting cocky!
But who is in the wrong as my dad didnt approve and he wrote if your 'father does not approve refund the deposit'?
Then he was basically saying modifying saxo's is stupid(aint got a clue has he)

Sorry rant over lol,Jace
ps i wont be laying a deposit again unless im actually sure i want it and will be buying it!

I would assume that if it is written down, then that could constitute a contract. You were rather foolish however to put a deposit on something unless you really wanted it.

Why not ask the CAB where you stand.

You got the money back - lucky!
Think of it as a lesson in buying cars!

On balance of probabilities, and should it have been pursued all the way to the Small Claims Court, you will have been successful. However, best not to put a deposit on something unless you really want it!

well at the end of the day if your not going to buy the car dont put a deposit it down it just wastes people time. i get it all at the time went people put down deposits on rented propertys and then want it back.

i do make it clear when they leave them that it is NON REFUNDABLE
