STILL Knocking - What the Hell is wrong with my car!
year 2000, w reg vts.
standard suspension and ride height.
right, clunks up and down kerbs, clunks on full lock, clunks not on full lock, clunks at taxiing speeds when turning, clunks when giving it beans round corners.
the clunking is left AND right sided and has done the same thing for 18 months, slowly getting worse.
i have changed...
both drop links
both wishbones and balljoints
both driveshafts
both arb bushes (and gearbox lower bush for good luck!)
...and top mount & top mount bearing now
also nothing shows on recent mot test.
springs look ok and seated correctly.
what am i missing?

You said that you replaced the lower ball joint? was it put back together properly?

Could be the bearing under the top mount. The top mount itself wouldn't clunk.

i see, its definately a big clunk from each side!
are the bearings available on their own or is it integral to the top mount?
do you need to drop the strut down to check/ replace these?

strut top mounts are usually available from any good car parts factors (ermm about 12-15 squids) each side

It was more of a throw it out there mate rather than a specific answer.
Might change my top mounts as on the left side when i had my strut replaced i do get a knock on turning.
it was purely because he said it happens both ways why i thought it might just be worth a quck check to see nothing is arry there

Yes see your point , suppose you could check theres no play in the rack with the wheels off ( for and aft movement)
