Default clutch problem help !!!!

hi just looking for a bit help got in the car this morning and when i started it was awfull ticking over badly and sounded like the exhaust had a massive hole looked under car straight away and seen smoke coming form front under car. stopped it straight away and checke oil water everything couldnt think what was wrong thought id see how it drove and when went to pull away stalled in first, started again and got it going but was no power at all through gears every now and then felt a little bit power but not for long. previous to this i did hear a sort of grinding nois when clutch was up but when it was down there was no noise any1 know if this is the clutch away spoke to a friend who says this is exactly what happened to his.
any input greatly appreciated
cheers Scott

clutch release bearing is what the noise was when you lifted the pedal, especially if it dissappeared when you pressed it

as for the smoke and lack of power

where was the smoke coming from?

and when you say lack power did the rengine still rev fine? ie was it revving up and the car wasnt going anywhere? could be your clutch completely burnt out?

would the clutch release bearing cause clutch slip aswell as the grinding noise?
