Anyone here in the army?
I'm thinking of joining, I'm 20 and stuck in a dead end job with not much hope for anything better coming along any time soon. I can't really afford to move out my parents which I don't enjoy one bit! The army has always been a possible interest to me but I fear once In I will miss the freedom, friends and civilian life. Someone who has been in the same situation maybe? Some advice would be great, didn't really know what where to ask about this but people on here seem sound

you take time off when your told too basically
im on 3 weeks summer leave at the mo
you'll get told rough dates of when your leave is a few months beforehand , depending on work commitments you can take the odd day off here and there

I'm not in the army but I'm in the RAF, and we work by the same principal.
During training you're told when you get time off but once you get onto a squadron (Or battalion/infantry/section in your case you are able to book time off when you want it, providing they allow it)

i agree with the above. my opinions of mates changed during my first weekend off during phase 1 i just saw them as drug taking scum who just sat around smokin weed all day tbh...
and tbh only join if its what you reallly really want to do you will not enjoy it if its not what you wanna do. i know shit loads of people who have joined just to ride out the recession and basically they find it hardest as there not mentally up for it... so they end up gettin n.f.f.s`d or just leaving.
