i taught myself how to play electric.

in hindsight the best way to learn would be to get a few lessons to learn the basics (chord structures, hand positions, scales etc.) properly, practice for say an hour every day to get used to it, then you can move on and start learning songs/writing on your own and if you feel you need it go back for more lessons or if you've got something specific that you'd like to know then the teacher should be able to help.

get lessons with a reputable teacher though.

wish id have got lessons cos you get into bad habits when you teach yourself as i did and its really hard to get out of them.

it depends on the style you want to play.
i find plucking easy but i am a basist TBF. I can strum, but i find fancy plucking more to my liking! (no pun intended)

To add on to what i have said, you will go through patches of bad playing, when this happens i like to have a break from it for a while. like i havent played in about a month, picked it up today and played awesome for an hour.

get way more enjoyable the better you get

Ive got a semi acoustic, aria.

I learnt from tabs aswell, if youve got a mate who can play, just get them to show you the basics, learn a few chords etc, then you should be able to pick it up pretty quickly.

been playing for about 7 years now!

i would just start learning chords, then go on to scales, then on to songs you want to learn, think someone already said this.

in my opinion most tabs on the internet are crap and wrong.
so best to learn songs by ear or the proper tab books.

I'd say get a teacher.. I "taught" myself and at the time I thought I was quite good, soon realised I'm absolutely rubbish and have since stopped playing, shame tbf
