i have built 2 so far very good, and great fun, but be aware it is alot of work and alot of kit's are utter shite and you have to be very careful with what you choose, robin hood = Fake caterham = Shite imo, but its your choice, make sure the quality is there then it will make the build so much easier and more pleasurable. Good luck btw. and some good info is always at the Exeter Kit car show in Devon its great and happens in November iirc, i will be there also.

kit cars if done right are awesome.
a company near me named Z cars build them. was there yesterday they do one called a Z car Ultima
http://www.zcars.org.uk/ultima/index.htm
has two kawasaki hyabusa engines in and there both NOW supercharged. the car runs well over 1,000bhp .
there webiste needs updating as the pics that are up are old ones. the enigne bay now looks stunning.
they are also one of the first companies to put a Honda civic Tyre R engine in the back of a saxo .
http://www.zcars.org.uk/saxo/index.htm
and to think these guys live less then 5 min from me LOLS!.

im thinking about getting one soon as a project to do at weekends ect. looking back, if i was 17 again i would definately have a kit car. i found out about insurance when i was 23 with 1 years ncb and it was somthng like 200 fully comp for a 2.0 sierra engine compared to 900 for the saxo. i can get insured on a robin hood with a v8 putting out around 400 bhp for 230 fully comp (im also 29 which helps). basically they give you the money for the parts and you rebuild it yourself as most of the cost for an insurance claim will be labour charges.

According to the website they are turbo'd.
Z cars are not really kit cars either, they are modified production vehicles.
They specialise in the Vtec conversions for alot of things

as I said ryan the website is out of date. I was litrally at there place 2 days ago looking at the dam thing lol.
they do build kit cars there currently making some wedding car with a jag xj8 engine in it.
there also working on a lambo meets porche kit car for a client.
they also in the back have the old shape mini with wide arches made out of pure carbon fibre.
I went there as looking at getting my BM either supercharged or turbo'd there just pricing it all up for me and im off down there again next week. I most probs will be allowed to snap some photo's whilst im there .
this is one of there previous conversions up for sale. seems someone wants to sell up lol
http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1178981.htm
PS: they also have a 4x4 rolling road only charge £50 an hour which is a good price I think when you consider there labour is £45 an hour haha.
there is a friend of mine working on a Ferrari Dino replica aswell. he had some guy come down in a real dino so he could get proper moulds for it. so far two people working on it since feb 2009 he said it should be finished by march next year.

cheers for the replys, cant afford a cateram so probs going for a robin hood (friend of mine built one and customer service and after sales help was excellent) or an mk indy (i only say this because i know i can fit in one.
gonna try and make it to the show in exeter hopefully. sit in a few and see which ones i like.
price is obviosly a big factor. so will be one of the cheaper kits and make alot of my own stuff and make do and upgrade at a later stage.
