Get her to try the seating position. Its a bit awkward to get used to.
Cant remember the owners club I joined up when I was looking at them but I'll see if I can remember.
Head gaskets are a possible issue. not sure what else as was a few years ago when looking.

we look after a few ZR's, done the head gasket on approx 70% of them now. Not too many other common failings to be fair, as for parts availablity panels for the Mk2 facelift models are hard to come by but by and large we've never had much trouble.

headgasket failure, very poor interior ...seats have removable covers so you can wash them held on by plastic clips that snap and leave your interior looking shabby as fuck...my mates dashboard was falling to apart aswell.. his was a 2005 1.4 facelift

HG was fine on the facelift models.

And if it's one before, change it for a Freelander HG and it's fine.

"strech" bolts and there meant ot go right threw the engine. A lot of engines have these.. never too kan engine apart?

And the k series has won a shed load of awards its a great engine let down by a poorly designed hg.

The head alone won an award for being the first aly head to be cast out of "one" peice of ally.

EDIT: Even though im not the biggest mg/rover fan i cant fucking stand dinlos that jump straight on the "its a rover its shit mate... head gasket blah" band wagen.

105hp out of the 1400 what's the power of a westy again?? Have you personally owned a zr or even driven one to be able to give a proper opinion or just what your mate told you while you sat in mac d's with your rad tunes blaring?

I own a zr, head gasket has gone this week, but its all under warrenty, make sure it has a multilayer gasket and its fine, some cheapskates use oem gaskets and rag it around, this can cause the head to just go again. Very nice interiors compared to saxos, and yeh i can say that as i have owned a saxo for 2 years, they fell nice and solid to drive, plus you have abs. As for being gutless, wtf? when i aclerate around 60/70 in 5th gear im not disapaointed like i was allways in my westcoast. I do have the 1.8 version tho, not sure on the 1.4, but they are 105bhp, more than vtrs anyway. For the money they are fun cars, personally i love the look of them. Make sure u check to see if the sunroof seals hasnt poped up, not a big job to sort out. I use http://www.themgzr.co.uk/
