How to clean the engine?
Hello All
Any tips on how to clean up the engine??? At some stage My car has had what looks like quite a major oil leak, and the underside and a few areas inside the bay are minging with old oil (its definitely not fresh).
Can anyone recommend a best way to get this all off? I'm tempted to see if anywhere local can steam clean it, but unsure how much this would cost etc.

I would avoid steam cleaning mate tbh as it could do some damage to sensors etc, some argue that washing the EB with a hose is dangerous but i would argue that as long as electrical items and battery etc are all covered propely then you shouldnt have any problems, i would use something like Megs APC/ Degreaser and a variety of brushes and lots of microfibres.
main thing is just be careful.

T.F.R, very good engine cleaner, and then jetwash, making sure you cover ECU.

Paraffin is as good, if not better than ANYTHING at cutting through grease and cleaning engines. And you can buy it for £4 a gallon. Once youre done you just wipe the worst off with a rag and the rest will evaporate.
All Ive ever used to clean engines and gearboxes.
Its flammable, yeah, but Ive never had something I was cleaning burst into flames lol.
