Exceptional quality on some of the darker shots. Looks like you've got a good camera there. I want an SLR but need it to be fairly compact really.
I like some of the shots on the bridge

without meaning to shoot the OP down, really nothing there that stands out as something fantastic there.
Should always learn to walk before trying to run.
For me nothing really interesting composition wise, and the yellow WB isnt that nice. Obviously the person is new and learning so something great for them to work on, but people doing bad jobs on the side is killing the industry in some areas.

Pretty good for an amature
I like the one with the blue light emerging in the background, thats cool.
Advice: do some reading up on White balance (WB) because your photographs are quite yellow as Ryan stated.
The pictures dont stand out as "professional" but do have the basis of what can be good with practice, without shooting down ryan here i say you have a good idea for what to do with photography, just need practice and you must reseach more on how to acheive decent shots to get good results.
You have however got the right idea for great places to photograph, which in this case no one has commented on even though it is at the end of the day the most important thing in a photograph. so well done there try some daytime shots, and try shooting with areas lit up with your cars headlights etc..

im with ryan on this one ive started to get more involved with photography myself and i can tell you now most the work is done in the processing stage. it becomes second nature to attach the correct lenses, filters etc etc but it never becomes second nature when pre processing as eash photo is different.
with regards to the pictures showen id suggest a Lens hood & a UV filter is in order will clean up the pictures even more wont get as many flares due to the hood and the hazeyness in the pictures will go away due to the UV filter.
if your doing auto here is a lil trick you can try if its a really dark area your taking pics of but there is a light source aim the camera at the light source push your button half down let it register the exposure etc at that point then keep your finger down move the camera to the dark spot then push the button all the way down. its trick photography but works. also if you want to soften a picture you can place a nylon black tight over your lens (this is an old skool approach with portrait photography though lol).
im new to the game of photography myself but been a quick learner and also having an uncle who is a proffesional photographer for over 30 years sort of helps lols.
with regards to giving you help on exposure etc etc....... no one can on here..... since your shooting your pics in FULL auto mode lol.
every photographer is different I may even get shot down for the stuff ive just stated but by all means if anyone has over 30 years worth of photography under there belt by all means il start listening to you more lol.

Only if you cant get it right in camera to begin with
Processing is there to tweek, too many people use it to polish turds from poor camera work.
Go and look at deadlines for things like live sports, picture desks need images quick (and often first in gets the £££). They dont do hardly any processing.

yet again dude I agree I now do everything on the spot there and then when taking pics, cropping etc etc I see it as thats what the camera is used for so may aswell use all its functions to my ability lol. only thing I do with regards to processing is adding a watermark but il always render it as a RAW again so ive not really compressed anything ''as such'' soooooooo many people take pics in jpeg then put them into photoshop process then render and in theory double conmpress so loose vital quality lol.
one thing ive learnt its not the size of the megapixels its the size of the resolution which counts you already know this stuff ryan but others wont

Jpegs are fine, 95% of my work is done in Jpeg and has been used in all ranges of media, billboards, magazines, cds, newspapers etc....
It depends on what you are doing and what you plan to do with the file. Its a format people seem to slate but most people only need JPEGs over 1mb anyway it seems.
Getting it right in cameras is good but again with the cropping, depending on if you are shooting for an art editor you sometimes need to leave them room to crop how they want for their article etc...

I always leave a 10-15% hedroom for future cropping its just something I see as common sence really as you just stated a magazine/editor would want to mess with the picture its bound to happen as what we may see in a picture others may not
