Wink 8V Head Blacktop VS Early Silvertop

Hi there!

I have a VTR mk2 with a early silvertop engine (90hp), and i have just bought a ported head from blacktop engine but will it fit?

First of all i would like to know what are the differences between the blacktop head and the silvertop? I know the blacktop has nonroller valve rockers and uses different cam bearings. It also haves stronger valve springs. But are there any more differences?

Will the blacktop head fit the early silvertop engine block (90hp)? I have read some where the blacktops have dished pistons and the silvertop doesnt...

If it fits how much would have to be changed? I know the inlet manifold will fit but what about the coilpack and the injectors? And what about the thermostat housing?

Any help is much appreciated!

AFAIK 90bhp engines are interchanagble between black and silver but the later MK2 98bhp haave differnet port spacing. You should be okay to swap in other words.

The black top is a different casting then the early silver tops with a altered combustion shape.

Yes i can tell the castings are different.
How is the combustion shape different? Is it bigger? Will i still be possiable to fit the head?

i fitted a rallye head to my early silvertop which is old blacktop head and it bolted on never got the car running right but i think that was more down to me not wiring up the rallye inlet right/getting the timing wrong when i did the cambelt

no, theres other differences between the 90 and 98 bhp engines, otherwise he'd loose 8bhp by fitting a black top to his silver top

ok thats great thanks for confirming!
Didt you use the early silvertop ecu and loom? If so did the coilpack and injectors fit straight on?
And what about the thermostat housing? Will the silvertop fit the blacktop head?
