Default Drivers footwell soaked?

As you can see there is a huge soaking wet patch under my drivers carpet. I keep getting smells of coolant in the car and my water is slowly going down but when I've dabbed the water it isn't blue nor smells of coolant? Is it a possible heater matrix problem?

yeah probably mate. As to why it doesnt look/smell like coolant is beyond me. If you smell coolant when in the car it most likely will be, especially if the water level is going down

It is only random occasions that I smell it and it's a perfect circle where it has soaked as you can see in the picture. How can I find wether it is leaking or not? Just put my head under the dash and get looking?

Also the passengers side is bone dry which is usually the heater matrix?

yeah just run the engine up to temperature and check for moisture or dripping. And as far as i can remember the matrix is lengthwise behind the centre console, so depending which side is leaking, it could be in either footwell. Have you also checked the sunroof(if fitted) or the canals that channel water around the windscreen? They can sometimes clog and cause damp inside the footwells. There are a few other threads concerning those so might be worth a quick look

I'm assuming that if coolant is going amiss then it should hopefully be the matrix. Hopefully I say as otherwise it'll be a head gasket or something hence the water going down. I've got a week off work so I'll get to work tomorrow and see what's what.

Cheers matey

How did you fix it? Did the water not smell of or look like coolant?

Possibly the culprit! Just to the right of where the drivers feet go where the carpet screws into the chassis.

Not sure if this is good news as my coolant is going somewhere. Possibly a warped head or gasket is going very slightly -_-

I don't really know how the water is getting in mate. Whether its a loose heater pipe or whether its coming in from the outside i can't tell :/

From what I can see yeah they're still there. I've had my head in the arch and cant spot any holes where it could come from. Will check the sunroof seal today and would you suggest a coolant pressure test to check for a leak in the matrix?

It's my drivers side and I don't think I've pissed myself haha. Can see where the leak is in post 9 so its coming from somewhere!

Could be washer pump pipes the back washer runs through pillar and along right hand side a roof , so I'd say matrix or washer pipe or god knows lol can't think of anythin else all fuel lines run passenger side , could be front window seal , is it still getting wet when weathers good ?

it looks like your sunroof is leaking and the water is running down your A pillar and onto the carpet. check all the drainage pipes around inside of the sunroof

This, thats what my sound deadening looked like when my sunroof used to leak. Used to pour down the a pillar and soaked the carpet/sound deadening.
