gearbox? wheres this oil comming from? - Saxperience

My cars making a rumble sound.....again :@ Had a look underneath and noticed some sort of oil dripping and you can see the surrounding area covered in this oil substance.
I've got no idea where it's coming from, as I can't get underneath the car enough to look. My jack failed on me so cant even jack the car up. But took photos with my phone as well as i could. Any one got any idea what it is?

Am saving for a van. But until then i'm stuck with this car...Hope its not an expensive repair

Does it smell like gearbox oil?

More than likely driveshaft seals. If not that, then the input shaft seal.

I can't see how any of those would make a rumble sound though.

Well, I Don't know what gearbox oil smells like tbh. I've had the drive shafts changed like 2 weeks ago.. So if it is any of the seals, at least they are under warranty.

If you had the driveshafts changed are you sure it's not just residue that wasnt cleaned off when the oil leaked out during the driveshaft removal.

Wipe it away and see if it comes back. My gearbox has the same underneath, thats what mine looks like....its more like sweating than a leak on mine,it just looks worse than it is, i check my oil level on my box every 6 moths and it still leaks out the level bung (overflow) when removed

I thought the same, it dosnt look like its seated.

Ill have a better look when it's light. Even though I'm not too sure what I'm looking at. If "it doesn't look like its seated" would this suggest it's not properly attached? Or fitted incorrectly?

I'm pretty certain it wasn't there before. It was dripping and seemed fresh..
But of course ill wipe it all up best I can and see if it comes back

if it werent seated, it would just mean the driveshaft would need pushing more into the box. can be a bit of a pain sometimes, i usually ram it in with strut attached for a bit of extra force

Okay thanks. Will nip it into the garage on Wednesday... Could this cause it to rumble while the cars rolling? It did the same when the n/s driveshaft went doji

What shafts & gearbox are you using? Thats leaking from the driveshaft seal it looks soaking.

The driveshaft shouldnt need forcing into the box really if the car is all together. its not like they have a snap ring etc they should come in and out with relative ease therefore when you drop the strut into the bottom arm the shaft should be all the way in.
