Default Trading Standards Letter

Ok guys, i'm sick of waiting for the body shop to repair my Golf so i've been on to Trading Standards and they've asked me to send them a recorded letter.

Just wondering if you guys could have a quick read and point out anything i've mistyped, missed etc...

To whom it may concern,

I write to you with regards to the rectification work on my 1990 Mk2 Volkswagen Golf (G109 DRF)

I bought my car to you on the 28th January 2013 to have the rear bumper, rear panel, driver’s wing and half of the driver’s door repaired and painted.

After having the original repairs completed, I collected the car on the 4th February 2013 and noticed the defects on the 5th February 2013. I bought the car back to you on the 5th February 2013 to bring the issues to your attention.

There are scratches on the wing in two places and a defect where the rust was repaired. The boot lid has scratches that weren’t there when the car came to you. The rear panel is not the correct shape and there is a crease in on the right hand side.

After several phone calls and visits to your workshop, the rectification work still hasn’t been done due to you being busy and having no room in your workshop.

I write to you to ask for the car to be booked in for the 15th April 2013. The car will be available for two weeks.

If you could please reply in writing to the above address, it would be appreciated.

Yours sincerely,

Jason Girvan

Cheers guys!

Just a detail but you never know: if you paid with a credit card for a sum over £100, you can contact your bank and get a refund while they deal with the garage as in "goods/services not provided".

The process is similar with the trading standards, except they can be slow.

Cheers mate! Unfortunately I paid in cash. Fortunately, it does state that on the receipt with his signature In fact, I should probably put the price and method of payment in there!

Yeah you need to fill in all the detail, in full detail (no pun). I had a few garage problems before, and in your case they have by law to guarantee their work. What I see here is that they provided a panel that does not fit. Goods not provided, the end. They tried to fit it anyway? Tough shit, service not provided either.

It might take you a while to sort it but I'd recommend getting it fixed elsewhere. I know that means extra dollar, but after that you should be able to either submit them with the repair bill or asking a refund for every penny. Do check fully with trading standards before making the next move.

Thank you to both of you.

The repair panel was repaired (Not replaced) Everyone I spoke to wanted to retain and repair the original panel because they're seam sealed on both sides.

If I get refused/no reply this time, i'll be getting quotes to have the work put right and submit these to Trading Standards. I'll pay out of my own pocket provided I can claim it back through TS.

I'd try and find someone who would do a proper job, because what you describe is cracks in the not so long term. Especially since your suspension setup seems a little rough. If it doesn't fit in the first place, you won't be able to tlc your way around it.
