Default Track day gear box

Hi all, i currently have a rallye S1 box rebuilt with a sports cluster 4.9FD and gripper diff.

The car is 100% track focused running 7" road legal slicks atm, NA 141.3bhp atw on jenvey throttle bodies etc.

Now was looking at the quaife close ratio gearset in the near future, would this be a good move for overall speed per £ or would the money be better spent else where? obviously other options will be considered but please post away your thoughts, if anyone here has one it would be good for them to share their knowledge!

James

with that kind of engine performance, I would have imagined that you have a resonable spread of torque and the engine doesnt rev that high. I personally would look else where to improve lap times.

Decide your future engine spec first - no point buying a quaife gearset with a top speed of 115mph @ 7.8k and then changing your engine spec 6 months later for a supercharger that needs 140mph @ 7.8k

What's your top end on the current box? Are you hitting the limiter on the straight in 5th?

If its a REAL track car --then touring cars only gear for around 135-140 with 6 pseeds and thats with 300bhp --but if its going to be a road /track car then with s/c you could carry higher gearing as the power band will be wider than highly cammed n/a
as already said you need to work out the cars prime function ,then spec to suit .big bhp + lower gearing make more wheelspin with carless throttle application
check this vid out

this car has 380bhp and is s/c and is geared for acceleration ,but he also has full traction control and thats why once he gets past the 600bhp scoobie he justs drives away --no lag with s/c ,as you can see on the scoobie and he can nai the throttle in the corners and let the traction control do the work

The car is never going to see road use, and i thought before spending more money on the engine power i would get everything else set up and mastered first...

i have been around 115-120 off vts clocks on snetterton and woodbridge airfeild, now i have stack gauges it should be more accurate readings.

However current in gear top speeds;

1st: 30.1mph
2nd: 52.6mph
3rd: 76mph
4th: 97.7mph
5th: 120.1mph

That alfa is very impressive!

I'm not sure I'd be gearing it less than what you have. It's pretty short already.

The 13/59 crown and pinion is what the 106 1,3 lt rallye came with , at least in greece that is . Very popular over here too ,
i would advise making wedge holes for it on the diff as i have heard stories off differentials actually spinning inside it on high powered cars
