building a fast 1.1 can any1 give any advice:)???
Hi everyone
Im starting a new project building a fast 1.1.
The engine is the 1.1 spi it's a 00 mk2
So far I have breathing mods sorted
Custom hks induction kit
Apex universal air vent filter
Full stainless steel exhaust not sure of the make
Custom 4 branch stainless manifold
Rear seats removed
Carpets and sound deadening removed
Spare wheel removed
Half roll caged ordered
Disc brakes all round
Lowered
Full vtr kit
Smoked headlights
Gloss black badges
Windows getting tinted next week
Prob a few more bits im leaving out aswel.
No alloys on car currently as I sold my set of vts ones
Any ideas for any other mods( cams, carb tuning etc anything considered or any1 selling any alloys cheap
Will upload a few pics on Saturday
when im back home.
Please no just get a vtr or vts, I don't want a vtr engine in it, I just want a fast 1.1 something different that
I have a 1.4 vtr engine lying around in the shed is there any bits I could use off that?
Any help at all appreciated Thanks

Would be a massive waste of money a "cammed" 1.1 with breathing mods would make 65 bhp max save your money for something worth tuning, in your position I would bang the 1.4 lump in.

building a fast 1.1, and you've done the following
Custom hks induction kit fit a proper induction kit
Apex universal air vent filter
Full stainless steel exhaust not sure of the make get a decent exhaust, proven tried and tested, pug/saxsport, kam racing/supersprint
Custom 4 branch stainless manifold same as above, amount it takes to make a decent manifold, very much doubt this is helping
Rear seats removed
Carpets and sound deadening removed
Spare wheel removed and now you have a bumper acting like a parachute, fit/make a rear lower floor to smooth the airflow
Half roll caged ordered
Disc brakes all round
Lowered
Full vtr kit so you stripped it, then added weight
Smoked headlights why???
Gloss black badges
Windows getting tinted next week fit perspex ones instead

Hmmmmmm.... Something doesn't quite add up here.
In all honesty, just get a vtr/s.

Get done panels made from carbon fibre or fibreglass, drastic weight reduction!
Bonnet and wings! And as said, perspex windows!

You can cam the 1.4 to make decent power (the 1.4 xsi as standard made 100bhp).
Or indeed a 1.3 rallye made around that mark too, however with those engines there were a lot of changes made to the head, induction set up and management to make that power so you really need to lose the 1.1 head and spi setup and by that time you could have put a different bottom end on it.

Hi thanks for the replies, I know the 1.1 is never going to be that fast I'm just looking for something with good acceleration more than anything not to bothered about overall top speed as it does around 115 anyway.
I was thinking of dropping the 1.4 vtr in but can't find a guide to splicing the looms:/
Also would the acceleration be much different in the 1.4 if I did go down that way??

the 1.4 from a furio or europe spec vtr is just a cooking model unit, basically its just for economy due to the head and cam used. Just start off with a better head in my view

You'll never have a 1.1 thats great top end so best thing to concentrate on is handling. Make it as light as possible, fit best brakes possible and make it stiff as possible!
Ok it may not be fastest in a straight line but make it so in the corners you can keep as much speed up as you can!

lose as much weight as you can on the car that should help you out a fair bit.
