Default Brakes for saxo

Evening guys,
I have a saxo rally car and i'm very much indebted to my friend who predominantly looks after it for me, trying my best to learn just at the moment.

My question is has anyone upgraded brakes, discs etc and know which sizes fit/ which to get? Completely standard just now and looking to get quicker and thought late braking (and bigger balls!) would be a good place to start.

Any info appreciated.
Cheers,
Greg

266 or 283 setups from 306's are the usual go-to upgrade. After that its usually hispec/brembo stuff

what surface you running on? Personally heavier brakes would be the last thing I'd want on a rally car due to more unsprung weight.
I'd start with a proper race pad and see how you get on.

CL Brakes RC6 or RC5 will be much better than the OMP range.

It works as a great street upgrade as the weight of the brake calipers and discs is not particularly critical. Its still rather heavy though and deadens the steering and the ability for the suspension to quickly react over rougher terrain.

Thanks for everyone's replys, I do the STRC which is the Scottish Tarmac Rally Chanpionship, so all tarmac based, usually the tarmac is in fairly decent nick too, buying expensive pads is not what I'm after here looking at the long term -in my eyes- might look at the brembo pots as said and see how we get on, still listening though
Thanks,
Greg

You really dont want to increase unsprung weight. Its got to be one of the main things you want to reduce on a rally car! For a race car you need the smallest brakes you can get away with as any extra weight will impede performance in a number of key areas. You will be surprised at how effective a change in brake compound can really make. It may allow you to work with the setup you have. Are you overheating your brake discs and therefore needing a bigger disc? Long term you may want floating discs and lightweight calipers but thats money.

What brake pad compound do you run now?

Well a standard OEM brake material will be terrible for racing on. I'm surprised you have not had issues with fade.
