Home Made Roll Cages
This thing to me looks like it would do more harm than good if it was ever called upon

Wow. No triangulation at all and weak tubing. I'm not sure the point of creating it, but at least it will be easy to remove and scrap.

It depends what constitutes as ‘qualified’.
I used to take my old 3-series to the main dealer in Derby when I had issues (since it was still under warranty) and I regularly got the car back with more faults than it went in with. Simple things, like tightening body panels or checking tyre pressures after they’d a tyre had been changed weren’t done. The car also underwent a 120 point check, which failed to identify several key issues with the car. When I complained about the level of competence of the dealership I received a snotty response from the Service Leader, Steve Fable, claiming that all of his staff are ‘qualified BMW mechanics’. So whatever qualification they have sounds like it’s worth less than the paper it’s written on.

Its entirely possible the guy IS a qualified mechanic...... but being a qualified mechanic and being a good fabricator aren't necessarily the same thing...... understanding the principles of a good roll cage are another thing completely on top of that.

Surely though the race scrutineers check the car/s for safety before allowing them out onto track? So how on earth did this get through?

This is why Saxo/106 owners get a bad reputation - would not want to end up shiny side up in that thing!

Same as the main vauxhall dealer i have to take my works van in to.I had to take it in for a mirror glass cos some dick smashed it. I was waiting for over a hour and they came through and said they didnt have one in stock but theyd done a 100 point safety check on it. Failed to miss that i had a headlight and rear bulb out. Absolute idiots.

Table leg roll cage FTW!
I'm pretty sure he's actually cut up a school table, used the top of it for his rear bench and the legs for the 'cage'

No disrespect, but main dealers use a lot of YTS lads - straight out of school. Some of them are good mechanics, but most of them have probably never held a spanner in their life and just joined the scheme to get a job.
