Aftermarket steering wheel.
Little old me again lol.
I would like to know if fitting an aftermarket steering wheel is legal to do so and will not void or fail an M.O.T inspection.
The next question is with regards to an aftermarket steering wheel, are they any that have airbag support as my VTS has an airbag in it.
I have seen many posting saying you can get a fuse and bridge the connection for the light to go out however I want to know if theirs such aftermarket wheels that can hold airbags in and wont cause problems.

Not many have air bags at all and the ones that do are very expensive!
Aftermarket steering wheels are legal and wont affect anything however the airbag light will be in but some electrical tape over the bulb should solve that!

Tape over the light is a MOT fail now. Light has to come on and go off.

Would the fuse trick solve this 2 ohm 1 watt 5% film resistor on wire connected to the wires where it would normally connect to the airbar as I believe this acts just like the airbag does for the light to go on and come off.

MOT
The vehicle will fail the test if any airbag fitted as original equipment is faulty or missing.

My car has been MOTd by 2 different people and passed on both occasions with tape over the light?? They cant go looking for problems in MOT, they have certain checklist of things to check but then thats it! I had a big rust hole, i was told if I put carpet over it then itd pass MOT because they cant see it and theyre not allowed to go looking for anything!
If you tape up the light it should pass!

Not strictly true warning lights they must check for, they are not however allowed to take a screwdriver & start prodding for rust.

The airbag one is only a failure if the light remains lit indicating a fault.
This rubbish about it having to illuminate for a certain amount of time and then go out again upon startup is not true in the slightest.
I had the same problem with the wife's car come MOT time, originally the light was lit and had never been an issue until this year (the car is cat D, a design flaw in the Suzuki swift she has means that if the airbags deploy the actual loom fries itself in several places. we'd replaced the airbag modules thenselves in the dash and sterring wheel to resolve the cosmetics but the loom repair costs quoted over £2,000)
With advice from Vosa themselves whilst at the MOT centre they categorically stated that the failure only applies I the light remains lit indicating a fault.
Needless to say bulb removed, retested and passed.
I cannot answer/or confirm for the current state of play with regards to the airbag obviously missing when fitted as Original Equipment scenario

i just rely on the fact that the mot tester would assume my car didnt come with one, saxos are getting old now so its not unreasonable to assume they didnt come with one as standard
as long as there isnt an air bag and the light dosent come on i cant see there EVER being a problem no matter what a lot of diy mot testers say

Yes this will trick the ECU into thinking the airbag is still connected.
