Car Crash Statistics...
Righto lads/ladettes. After watching THIS programme, I started looking into crash statistics in the UK. We're constantly being told that to many people are dying on our roads. Now look at these statistics for 2011...
Bare in mind, several millions of people drive EVERY day...
Killed 1,901: When you consider how many people drive everyday, is 5 deaths a day alot? Really?
Seriously Injured 23,122: Again, when you consider just how many people drive everyday, is 63 serious injuries alot?
Now, to pin-point accidents.
Speeding
Around 430 people a year are killed in crashes in which someone exceeds the speed limit or drives too fast for the conditions.
Maybe i'm being totally senseless and stupid, I don't know. But, compared to the number of people on our roads, the number of accidents/injuries/deaths etc... seems to be a really good figure. I mean, there will ALWAYS be accidents.
Thoughts?

I reckon you're right.
Therefore going off these statistics our insurance should be a LOT cheaper.

Our statistics are brilliant.
Especially compared with somewhere like India or Peru etc

Seems to be a lot more people die than that when you see our yard full of fatality related cars each week waiting for the csi's to come inspect them.
No matter what way you look at it one death is too many.
That's part and parcel of getting behind the wheel its a risk people take every day.

i completely agree too, there are always going to be accidents, and i always thought that this was one of the safest country's in europe and possibly the world to drive in.... i mean if you look at the driving attitude of people in other countries, they have no knowledge of any road safety and in general they are far more dangerous to drive on than roads over here
so basically yeah i think we have really good road safety figures here and the government are making a bit of a meal of it tbh

If someone crashes on the M25, it causes havoc. Any death is a terrible loss, as we have a 1/7.6m chance that could have been us, everyday.

This just reminds me of loads of other daft statistics
One being.. The chances of you getting struck by lightning are stupidly higher. Then the chances of you winning the lottery

It has been a close friend before, it was very nearly my brother last year.
I still believe that for a population of nearly 67 million, 1901 deaths per year isn't that bad.

Saw a crash this morning on the a500. Women clipped the central grass verge, spun it, totalled her car. Hopped out fresh as a daisy. Not a dicky bird of a scratch.

The problem is the human. we can program computers and they wont fail...... so lobg as the human input was correct.. so driving is the same if it was completely automatic it would be safer.
but with human input you will always get human error.
i agree 5 deaths is not alot considering the amount of driving wtch is done each day but still 5 could be 4 which is better but 0 is what we would like to see
take the human out and it could well be 0

Problem is, with so called 'Accidents'
An accident is a genuine reason where shit hits the fan, like a mechanical failure or something completely unavoidable.
An 'Accident' where some old doddery bitch says 'Oh sorry I didn't see you' No love you didn't fucking look..
So many accidents could be prevented, I think our driving standards are pathetic - albeit much better than 3rd world countries (obviously)
