I meant we pay for insurance "incase" we crash so is was quite contradictory to argue that charging more "incase" it gets stolen is stupid.

All i'm saying is they are charging me ludicrous amounts, hiding behind the guise that because of my area, it's going to get set alight every 5 minutes. When in reality I have never crashed, and neither have I claimed for any damage or losses.
IF my car was damaged or something was stolen from it every few weeks, AND I actually claimed for it each and every time, then yes what they charge me would be reasonable. But being as none of this has happened, and I have never claimed, as I said it just seems unfair.
Of course, I can't do anything about it (apart from move), but just saying IMO.

Hi mate
The price you pay is not based on whether YOU have claimed, it's likely calculated by the statistics for the amount of thefts/claims etc in your area.
It is not fair to punish you for that I agree, you can thank the car thieves and people who claim lots

I haven't read all of this thread, but as a 17 year old, i can see why people do it.
Personally I haven't.
I got my insruance just before the prices all got hiked up, and have paid £1200 on my VTR for the first year. The price of learning/driving at 17 is crazy!
Now roughly lessons at £45 for 2 hours, Theory £50, Practical £120 for test and instructor, the usual tax, mot, services, maintenance - then get hit with a huge insurance price!
I have a friend who drives a 1.1 Saxo, and even on his own policy, car is in his name, 1 years NCB, his 2nd years insurance, TPFT was £1100! This is reasonable compared to some others, people taking out insurance now for boys at 17, are looking at minimum £2000 even on 1.0 and 1.1!
Everyone is telling young people to work, look for jobs etc etc - how can you when it is priced like this?
And yes, i'm sure ill get some responses saying "use public transport for a year and save" - even public transport is getting stupidly expensive for young people.
I get so wound up when you have articles on the tv, with middle aged women in Audi TT's complaining their insurance has gone up by £46 to a HUGE price of £306 a year fully comp.
Yes, I can see why people do it, but I wouldn't. I have paid so much and worked so many extra hours to do it legitimately, I would never risk getting caught out.

I'm 17 and I own my saxo. It is my car, my policy but my mum is the main driver as I use MY motorbike to commute to college every day. I drive my car occasionally (at nights sometimes to go to the shops and weekends). I'm paying £1700 fully comp for this with a pass plus cert. and i've been passed roughly 3 weeks. I'm really happy with this as my cheapest quote before that was £7000ish. I'm one of the cases where I am actually the named driver and I got them to put a note on my policy that I use my motorbike to commute every day so they don't think i'm fronting. I do not agree with fronting but I understand why 17 year olds don't want to pay in excess of £4000 just to insure a car for a year.

Insurance companies can prove your fronting simply by looking for another insurance policy on another car owned by your parents, simple really.
The price of insurance isnt always to replace your car/whatever you hit.
If you knock over a child and they get injured & need 24 hour care for the rest of their life, its the insurance that pays, unless they can find a way to void the insurance then its YOU that has to pay.
For a mistake you make when you were new to driving you could be paying for the rest of your life, all you had to do to avoid it is insure yourself properly!
There are always options, the problem with all the 17 year old is that they want cars that their mates think are cool.
My first car was a nissan micra and i paid £800TPFT for my first years insurance in my own name.
It wasnt a car i particularly wanted, BUT i wanted to drive leagally so i had it for a year then changed to my saxo.

Yawwwn at people ranting about insurance- It all comes down to the fact that
IT IS YOUR OWN CHOICE!!
There are obviously pros and cons of both arguments, but being on a saxo forum, you have to expect the people who play the system to outweigh the people who go by the book

My thought is this.
Why the fuck does anybody care how anyone else is insured? If your legel/illegal and happy whats it matter really?
I know where all paying more because they do it. But seriously we pay high taxes because the banks cant manage debt wheres the thread telling the banks how they should do it? Grow up people stop trying to be a good concious and worry about yourselves not anybody else.
Stop pretending your judge and jury and go get saving for your high insurance or your fronting scam...... Jesus

So if your car was written off by someone who was fronting and their insurance company voided their policy how would you feel then?
Especially when the other person says that cant afford to pay for your expenses all in one go and has to pay you back at £50 a month or something?

Problem solved mate, Piggie is rich lol
Jokes aside though I agree with everyone in this thread
The thread is pointless, someone ranting online wont change fuck all, although I DO!!!! agree with his argument.
Although as others have said, it will be HARD (not impossible) to prove in alot of cases that it is 'fronting'.
Im a named driver on a policy...I think I have drove the car twice though.
Its all pointless, if people want to 'front' then they will. Nothing an E-rant will change lol.
Most people would rather 'front' than get a bus tbf

it doesnt work quite like that. They HAVE to pay out to the 3rd party. Its the person with the void insurance they dont have to pay for whatever reason it may be etc.

No?
They don't have to pay the 3rd party. Its just like being hit by an uninsured driver if the insurance is voided. You have to go through the courts etc to get any form of money back.

no but if you are originally covered but have voided the policy afterwards by lets say they've caught you fronting, or undeclared mods, they still have to pay the third party regardless.

And then they recoup that money from their customer, either way, you lose and as mentioned , if you cause a high value claim ( eg injure someone) then you lose badly.

I'll be TOTALLY honest in this post.
When I was 17 my parents insured MY car in their names with me as an additional driver. At the time I did NOT know this was "Fronting" or Illegal!
Unfortunately I did have abit of a bump and guess what, not insured. After explaining what was a GENUINE mistake and misunderstanding, the insurance company did not press charges although I did end up paying over £1,000 for repairs to my car and the third party vehicle.
Again, genuine mistake.
One of the other questions used to catch people fronting is the "How many vehicles in your household" 3 cars in a house with 3 people? What does that look like...?
Personally, if I knew someone was fronting I'd report it. They are not insured and shouldn't be on the road!

You make that sound like 3 cars in a house with 3 people is odd. How is it? There are 6 vehicles registered at my house....with 4 people living there. So what you getting at?
Btw, how do you fit 3 cars in a house?

No mate, not what I'm saying lol MOST people only have one car each. Sure some people have more but the majority of people have one each.
I'm only passing on what I was told by the insurance company.

Ok no worries, its just you put 'another way they find out is ask "how many cars in your household"?' 3 cars with a house with 3 people, what does that look like?'
That makes it sound like you are saying someone in the hosue must be fronting
